open log!
Who: Lance and anyone!
What: Arriving, mostly, and trying to find people and not die.
Where: Northern Drifts and then the Lake area.
When: Early/middle of October
Warnings: None so far!
Northern Drifts:
[ What wakes him was the cold. Lance hadn't had the luck to be dropped indoors, and while his armor keeps him safe from pretty extreme temperatures, he doesn't have a helmet at the moment, so his face is getting snowed on. Snowed on. He's not used to snow! Not even a little!
After minimal time of getting his bearings, which is mostly to say, to his feet, he starts calling out for his teammates. ] What the... guys?! Keith? Hunk, Pidge, Allura? ... Anyone?
[ Resounding, snow-blanketed silence. He only briefly scans the contents of the pack, noticing his clothes and the rations, but not much else beyond that. It alarms him a little, after a moment, that it seems he's unarmed. He can't find his weapon, and the communicator on his suit's not working... but he also hasn't seen anything hostile yet. So he slings his pack over his shoulders and starts searching, picking a direction and sticking to it as much as he's able.
Once he gets to the cabins, he starts knocking on doors, and opening them when there's no answer, but nothing here really seems lived in. Periodically he still calls out a name or two, but the longer he keeps trying, the more he loses hope of anyone answering.
Eventually he slumps against a cabin wall, sighing, looking up at the sky. ] Come on...
The Great Lake:
[ The way is both longer and shorter than he expected. The climate changes so abruptly it kind of confuses him, but the snow gives way to green and then there's water. And there's people-- at least he's pretty sure he saw a someone or two on the banks of the lake, just too far away for him to recognize, or even be sure whether or not they're human.
So now he's having a field day using his jetpack to hop from tall tree to tall tree, keeping a vantage point and trying to find out where people might live around here. Of course that's not exactly a subtle approach. ]

Whatever, moving on. He smiles back, though, more out of habit than by conscious choice. There's a wry edge to it, because he still has no idea what's going on, not any more than before, but... not being in it alone is good? A familiar face is very, very good. He looks Keith over and doesn't mention that he doesn't really look great. Just swallows and accepts that judgement-- if Keith says he's okay, then he must be. Okay enough, anyway. ]
Yeah, I saw like one other guy, but not anyone I know. Haven't been able to contact the others... I just had this backpack-- [ swings it to the front, ] but the food that was in there's almost gone now. I don't even have my bayard. What about you?
no subject
Looking at the backpack that Lance shows him, Keith nods, moving his attention to the shore where he left his own things. There's his own backpack, his chestplate and his dagger.]
Same. [On all points. Well--] Except I didn't see anyone else.
no subject
I know I saw some other people further down the shore, but I couldn't tell if they were humans.
no subject
[He moves his arms then, to grab some more water with his hands and pass it over his arms. They are red and warm to the touch, still, even after all this time in the water. It's about time to get out, though. They need to start looking for the others.
As for the question--]
No. I mean, I remember about as much as you do. [Which basically amounts to nothing.] One moment I was on Black's cockpit, [Taking a nap, but shhh, it's not like the lions were charged enough to go anywhere, anyway.] the next I was here. [Wherever here is.
Keith starts moving, then, making his way out of the water and back to his things.]
Maybe we can start by finding those people. They might know where we are, how we got here and how to find the others.
no subject
Yeah. They should have some answers to something, anyway. Even if it's just "have you seen these people" and "do you have any food", or something.
[ Time for the both of them to get out of the water, he guesses... swimming would be more tempting if he didn't remember being cold-- and if he had something more than wind and sun to dry off with. As is... well it's a space suit, he doesn't even have wet feet right now. ]
Where'd you wake up?
no subject
[He stops only once he is standing in front of his things, taking off his shirt and squeezing the water off of it to the side, before dressing it up again. He grits his teeth once the fabric touches certain patches of skin, but he doesn't let it slow him down, as he reaches for the sleeves of his bodysuit and starts squeezing those off, too.]
A desert nearby. [Saying it like that, when they are in a lake surrounded by trees, sounds incredibly ridiculous.] I mean, isn't that where you woke up, too?
[He looks at Lance again, then, from the corner of his eyes, and that's when it really hits him.
Lance... is wearing his full armor. And sure, he is from Cuba, and his skin is more well-equipped for the sun than Keith's, even though he lived in a desert all his life, but--... Even he would be dying of heat under that scorching sun.
His eyebrow raises slightly at the thought and he straightens himself up, turning to face Lance a bit better.]
no subject
Watching him wince makes Lance frown again. He shakes his head. ] Nope. I mean, it's gonna sound crazy, but about a day and a half that way [ he's pointing, of course ] it's full of ice and snow. Pretty sure if I hadn't had my armor I might've frozen to death.
Which... you know, makes no sense. That desert must've been intense though, you got some bad sunburn out of it.
no subject
Once he is already turned to him and Lance answers his question, Keith's eyebrow remains up, as he looks towards the direction Lance is pointing to.
That's... way too close from where he just came from.]
You... sure? [He asks, before looking behind himself and then back at Lance again. He's right. That does sound crazy. It really makes no sense. And yet--] ... Yeah, it's--... yeah. [Hot. Very hot.] How's that possible, though?
If I came from this way and you came from that way-- [He too, is pointing, using both his hands, even, one pointing towards one side, the other towards the other.] ... They gotta meet somewhere in the middle. [After all, it was only about a day and a half's trip, for both of them.] And there's no way that desert is turning into ice and snow.
no subject
... Maybe it's artificial? Can that, is that possible? [ He runs a hand through his hair. ] What the heck, where are the science people when you need 'em?
no subject
... Very, very likely not.
He moves his hand up, then, scratches the back of his neck, and sighs at what Lance says last.] Hopefully nearby.
[Lowering down, he gets the backpack back on his shoulder - a small hiss escaping him as he does - as well as the chestplate back on his other arm and the dagger on his hand.]
C'mon. We gotta find them. If this place is really that crazy, they might need our help.
no subject
[ He notices the wince, though. No healing pods, no magic alien healing powers, probably no aloe vera (and he sure isn't going to the desert to look right now either)... not a lot to be done.
He simply nods. ] Yeah. I haven't run into anything hostile so far at least... which, you know, is good because I don't have any weapons.
[ Before they start walking though, ] Want me to take that? The pack I mean.
no subject
[He hasn't checked if his own shield works. But, then again, he hasn't had his upper equipment on for a while.
The offer, though, takes him a little by surprise. He blinks, twice, his brain taking a little too long to catch up.] I--... uh. No, it's--... fine. It's a bit too heavy, I mean, you know, if we find trouble, it--... [Urgh. Words.
What he means is, if they get into any sort of dangerous situation, mainly without a weapon to defend himself, Lance would be better off lighter, particularly if his shield is still working. At the same time, however, Keith does have a weapon, which means he would have to be the one fighting, in case they did get in trouble. Which makes all the everything that he is carrying not good at all.
His frown deepens, for a second, before he offers his chestplate to Lance, instead.] Can you take that, though? I got my Marmora blade. If we need to, I can fight. But it might be harder with both my arms busy.
no subject
Keith seems to think his suggestion over, though-- if they do run into trouble, Lance would agree, it'd make more sense for Keith to be able to move as well as possible. They're both quick, at least. ]
Sure, yeah. [ He takes the big chunk of armor. Even though he's more concerned with Keith's backpack because that has got to hurt, right? Still. He hopes they won't need to fight-- and won't even say so because he'll jinx it, he just knows it. ]
no subject
... He passes his chestplate over to Lance, then, and his smirk turns more into a smile.]
Thanks.
[It should make his life easier. Taking a good hold of his blade on his now free arm, he looks around them and, eventually, does spot some houses in the distance.] Are the people you saw that way?
no subject
But the smile has him smiling back. ] Sure.
[ And nods. ] Yeah, that direction. ... Are those houses? [ Maybe. Maybe they're not as run down as what he saw before. ] I saw some cabins in the snowy place, but they were all pretty run down, nobody seemed to live there. Maybe they're here instead?
no subject
And then he nods, as well.]
Yeah. Looks like it. [... Human-made houses, too. Which is extra weird. This... can't be Earth, can it?] Lets check it out.
no subject
[ Granted, his geography is kinda fuzzy. But it can't be, right? Never mind that they're probably like super far away from Earth, anyway. He still tries to keep an eye on the surroundings, either way. ]
no subject
... I was thinking about that, too. [He looks from Lance back to the houses, frowning a little, after.] I don't know. [It's the honest answer.] I mean--... I don't think so? The lions weren't charged enough yet. [Or at all. They hadn't started the trip. Shiro was recovering and Pidge was trying to find the best route for them to take.]
... But those definitely look human.
no subject
[ ... Deep breath. ] But you're right. Those look human... sort of dated maybe. And the other dude I saw also definitely looked human, and now I guess we'll find out if everyone else is, too.
[ This still doesn't make ANY sense...!! Whatever, you gotta roll with it. ]
no subject
[That really is all there is to say to that. Nothing to add to it, either. He doesn't get it... But he doubts they will get any new information by just standing here.
Still, he does look at Lance, at the last thing he says.]
He looked human...?
[... Then again, maybe finding out more won't make them understand more, after all. In fact, maybe it will only make them understand less.]
no subject
[ He shrugs at the question. ] Yeah. I mean, as far as I could tell he was human, but then, you look human, and you're half galra, and Allura and Coran can probably look totally human if they try. So, you know. [ Grain of salt and all that. ]
no subject
He tries to focus on the path, instead. And on what they are talking about.
What Lance says makes sense. It's hard to tell, for sure. ... He is pretty sure he is the only half-Galra half-human there is. But, who knows. Could be wrong.] ... I guess.
no subject
Keith did say he's okay, though, so what else is he supposed to do but take his word for it? ... At least, he's not going to try for a particularly quick pace. Sure, the others might be here, might be in trouble, but... if Keith isn't okay, pushing him won't help anybody.
He makes sure he doesn't get ahead of him, so he can keep him at least in his peripheral vision, and keeps talking. ] Another thing I don't get is... we definitely didn't crash here. When I woke up I, you know? I didn't feel like anything had happened. And we've crashed or crashed into things and all that a dozen times before.
no subject
Yeah. I didn't feel like it, either. [Like anything had happened at all.] Besides, I couldn't find Black anywhere. [He looks at Lance, just slightly ahead of him.] I couldn't--... Can't even feel him.
no subject
Yeah. I can't sense Red at all either. There's just nothing there. It's like we're cut off, or somewhere totally different. ... And I mean, for some reason I woke up with my head on the backpack, like I was taking a nap. That's not a thing that happens at random.
